Special Column – International Disgrace

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 28, 2023 – Ottawa, ON

With plummeting poll numbers, Prime Minister Trudeau organized a shameless publicity ploy
designed to burnish his image.

Prior to parading Ukrainian President Zelenskyy at events across Toronto, Prime Minister
Trudeau called for a special sitting of the House of Commons to have President Zelenskyy
address Parliament (for the second time in two years). This set the stage for another international embarrassment, one more in a litany of Liberal missteps that have destroyed our country’s credibility.

On Friday, September 28, a Nazi veteran of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS was
given a standing ovation in the House of Commons. When this was happening, I was in Nova
Scotia meeting with anti-human trafficking organizations and church leaders.
Canadians, and in particular veterans, are outraged and they have every right to be. This
appalling error in judgement by the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Liberal
Government is deeply hurtful to Jewish people and to many Canadians who suffered under the
Nazis.

While I was not present, I will not fault my Conservative colleagues for standing and applauding.
We do not receive any notice of the Speaker’s guests and only Liberal MPs had the opportunity
to vet this individual’s past.

The Speaker has since apologized and resigned as the individual was a constituent of his. After
days of pressure, the Prime Minister also apologized ‘on behalf of everyone’ trying to share
collective responsibility.

But the damage on the international stage is done and the blame rests solely with Prime Minister Trudeau. President Zelenskyy was here at Trudeau’s request and it was Trudeau’s office that is responsible for arranging and vetting all guests and programming for state visits of this kind. The buck stops with Trudeau
