MP Viersen Advocates on Issues Important to Constituents

July 11, 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Barrhead AB: Over the past few weeks, Arnold Viersen, Member of Parliament for
Peace River – Westlock has written letters regarding a number of issues important to
constituents.

On June 16, MP Viersen wrote to Dominic LeBlanc, the federal Minister of Infrastructure
and Communities to add his support to a funding application made by Ronald McDonald
House Charities (RMHC) Alberta for the expansion of Edmonton House by adding 60
family suites to their current 38 suites. In 2022, RMHC Alberta served families in Peace
River, Westlock, Fort Vermilion, La Crete, Cadotte Lake, Red Earth Creek, Slave Lake,
Kinuso, Whitecourt, Fox Creek, Swan Hills and Barrhead.

On June 20, MP Viersen wrote again to Minister LeBlanc with Fort McMurray – Cold
Lake MP Laila Goodridge, to urge the federal government to provide the funding
necessary to support the Albertan government’s project to build a highway between Fort
McMurry and Red Earth Creek. This would facilitate economic growth, reduce travel
times and improve access to health for constituents in both ridings.

Finally on July 5, MP Viersen cosigned a letter regarding the Federal Underused
Housing Tax (UHT) to the Parliamentary Budget Officer along with 33 Conservative
colleagues, on behalf of concerned property owners in rural, agricultural, and Canadian
border communities. MP Viersen has received many questions and concerns from
constituents about the UHT and is asking the Parliamentary Budget Officer to provide a
cost-benefit analysis of the UHT for taxpayers by the time Parliament returns in the fall.
