Covid-19 Update – April 9, 2020

“Parliament will meet Saturday for yet another emergency sitting and Conservatives are prepared to return to Ottawa to consider measures that will get real help to Canadians affected by COVID-19,” said MP Arnold Viersen. “Conservatives have been part of Team Canada since Day 1, putting forward constructive solutions to improve government policies and programs.  We look forward to the government starting to implement our suggestions so that no one falls through the cracks.”

 

National

  • Canadian cases: 20,696 confirmed (14,987 active, 5,206 recovered, 503 deceased).
  • BREAKING – House of Commons to sit on Saturday April 11 to consider new measures to fight Covid-19.
  • NEW – Additional changes to the wage subsidy will assist start-ups and new businesses. Companies now able to compare their lost revenue to January and February of 2020, and will only need to show a 15 per cent decline in March.
  • NEW –  Enhancements to support Canada Summer Jobs program.
  • NEW – Conservatives propose measures to help small businesses.
  • NEW – Conservatives propose increasing support for the charitable sector, by temporarily increasing the Charitable Donation Tax Credit for 2020 and removing the capital gains tax on donations of private company shares and real estate.
