Liberals Target Hunters With Amendments

Ottawa, ON — This week, the Liberal government introduced amendments to their own Bill, Bill C-21, that will ban millions of hunting rifles with a new prohibition of any ‘rifle or shotgun, that is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner and that is designed to accept a detachable cartridge magazine with a capacity greater than five cartridges.’

By moving this significant change to legislation at the committee amendments stage, the Liberals did not allow a democratic debate or for experts to weigh in on the ban.

“Hunting rifles are not the problem. No one believes that going after hunters, and legitimate hunting rifles, will reduce violent crime across the country,” says Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen. “This latest change will ban hundreds more models of rifles and shotguns and directly affect hunters who rely on these rifles as a tool.”

“We know the Liberal approach to violence is failing Canadians. Violent crime has increased 32% since the Liberals took office and gang-related homicides have increased 92%.

“The Liberals’ approach to solving violent crime is ridiculous and it is endangering Canadian lives. When are they going to smarten up, get tough on crime, clean up our streets, and stop the flow of illegal firearms across our border?

“I will always stand up for hunters, farmers, and rural Canadians and their property rights.

“My colleagues and I will oppose these amendments in committee, and we will stand up for the millions of Canadian hunters affected by Liberal government’s ineffective bans and advocate for real, tough-on-crime policies to clean up our streets and keep Canadians safe.”
