Statement on Passing of Queen Elizabeth II

September 09, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Barrhead, AB — On the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen released the following statement:

I want to extend my deepest condolences to the Royal Family of Queen Elizabeth II, Defender of the Faith and Queen of Canada. For 70 years, the Queen served with honour, grace and dignity.

As a Commonwealth country, we are grateful for Her Majesty’s sense of duty to Canada and its peoples. From her first official visit in 1951 when she attended the Calgary Stampede, to her last visit in 2010, Her Majesty showed a remarkable love for Canada.

“I am sure that nowhere under the sun could one find a land more full of hope, of happiness and of fine, loyal, generous-hearted people. […] They have placed in our hearts a love for their country and its people which will never grow cold and which will always draw us to their shores.” – Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen was known for her strong commitment to her faith in God and regularly spoke about central role faith played in her life and reign.

“For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life.” – Queen Elizabeth II

I am particularly grateful for the stability Queen Elizabeth provided and the many virtues she modeled including selflessness, perseverance, kindness, duty, truth, justice, charity, and courage. We live in a time when these are sorely lacking, and Her Majesty’s incredible example will be deeply missed.

My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the Royal Family and King Charles.
