MP Viersen Tackling ArriveScam on Public Accounts Committee
March 14, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Barrhead, AB – Member of Parliament for Peace River – Westlock, Arnold Viersen, MP
has joined the Standing Committee on Public Accounts as its newest member.
The Public Accounts Committee is Parliament’s standing audit committee and its
primary responsibility is to review all reports of the Auditor General of Canada.
“Historically, the Public Accounts Committee has not been considered one of the more
exciting committees to follow – nevertheless its function to hold government
accountable for its spending is critical,” says MP Viersen. “Of course with the current
Liberal government, there is a new spending scandal every other day.”
“The past few weeks, our Committee has been investigating AdScam and the Auditor
General’s report on it. I had the opportunity to question the Office of the Auditor General
and the Office of the Procurement Ombudsman. They revealed that GC Strategies –
one of the companies at the heart of the scandal – got a finder’s fee for a company for a
company they never found.
“Every day, our Committee receives more documents from federal departments despite
the disappearance of four years of emails in an apparent attempt to cover up the
corruption and destroy records related to the $60 million ArriveScam app.
“Canadians deserve answers as to why Justin Trudeau’s useless ArriveScam wasted
millions of taxpayer dollars and why Liberal government officials rigged the contracting
process for their friends.
“Only Common Sense Conservatives will end the corruption by bringing home
accountability to Ottawa.”
