Liberals Broke Law with Emergencies Act
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 24, 2024
BARRHEAD, AB – Yesterday, in a landmark ruling upholding freedom, the Federal Court
declared that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act in
February 2022 was unconstitutional and directly violated Canadians’ most essential rights to
freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression.
Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen shared his thoughts:
“The Federal Court expresses what we have been saying all along – the use of the
Emergencies Act was unconstitutional, unreasonable, and unjustified. These are
strong words that capture the gravity of the Prime Minister’s massive abuse of
power.
“This whole situation was caused by Trudeau’s strategy to divide Canadians and
punish those who opposed his unnecessary vaccine mandates. Let’s not forget that
the Trudeau Government then lied to Canadians to defend its actions saying that the
police asked the Government to invoke the Act – which they in fact did not.
“It is time for the Liberals to answer for their attack on the most basic freedoms of all
Canadians.”
Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official
Opposition expressed in a statement:
“The decision to invoke the Emergencies Act was unnecessary from the start.
Trudeau caused this crisis by dividing people. He proceeded to violate Charter rights
to illegally suppress Canadian citizens.
“Common sense Conservatives will protect the Charter rights of Canadians, and as
Prime Minister, I will unite our country and our people for hope and freedom. A
Poilievre Government will ensure the Emergencies Act can never be used again to
silence political opposition.”
