Liberal Budget: Nickel-and-diming Canadians

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON — Today the Liberals introduced their 2017 federal budget, confirming that the Liberals will continue to raise taxes on families, students and small businesses.

“Prime Minister Trudeau could have offered lower taxes and a job creation plan that actually works,” says MP Arnold Viersen. “Instead, Canadians are getting nickel-and-dimed by this Prime Minister so he can continue to fund flawed Liberal ideas.”

“The Liberals also made a promise to limit deficits to $10 billion a year,” says MP Viersen. “Now, the reckless Liberal plan will increase Canada’s debt by 143 billion in only 6 years with no plan to return to balance.”

“The Liberals are disproportionally increasing taxes on rural Canadians through the Liberal Carbon Tax,” says MP Arnold Viersen, Deputy Critic for Rural Affairs.

The finance minister also indicated today that he may eliminate business structures that allow couples to split income for tax purposes which will significantly impact rural small businesses and farm families.

“I will continue to advocate for lower taxes and a job creation plan that will get Canadians back to work,” says MP Viersen. “Conservatives know the recipe for job creation and economic growth: low taxes, free trade and fiscal responsibility.”
