Letter to the Editor – Uncovered: Liberals Imposed Unlawful Emergencies Act Before Advice from Prosecutors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 22, 2024
Dear Editor,
As the Member of Parliament for Peace River – Westlock, I will never stop fighting for the rights and freedoms of Canadians.
Two years after Justin Trudeau and the Liberals used the Emergency Act’s extraordinary powers to criminalize Canadian citizens protesting excessive Covid-19 lockdowns, it’s been revealed that they did so before considering important advice.
Earlier this year, I filed an Access To Information request for the memorandum on the Emergencies Act sent to the Attorney General from the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC). The Liberal government claimed they had legal advice and has been caught lying to the public about this so it’s important for Canadians to know what the Prime Minister knew and when.
The letter of recommendation that the PPSC sent to the Attorney General, is clearly dated February 15th – one day after Trudeau invoked the Emergency Act. He used this act to suspend the constitutional rights of Canadians, making them criminals for protesting and seizing their bank accounts.
We will never know what advice the PPSC gave the Liberals about the Emergencies Act – the memorandum I received had every single line of text censored by the Liberals.
However, we do know that Justin Trudeau’s usage of the Emergency Act has been ruled by a federal court as unconstitutional and unjustifiable.
A Common-sense Conservative Government will ensure the Emergencies Act can never be used again to silence political opposition. We will unite our country and people for hope and freedom.
