Letter to the Editor – Trudeau’s New Emissions Cap Attacks Alberta Oil Workers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 14, 2024 – Ottawa, ON
Dear Editor,
Earlier this month, Trudeau’s radical Environment Minister announced plans to target Canadian energy workers with a NEW cap on the oil and gas sector. To be clear, this is not a cap on emissions, it is a cap on responsible Albertan oil production, jobs and paycheques. Further, newly revealed documents from Environment Canada show that the government knew this cap would cost thousands of jobs and lead to billions in lost revenue. Yet they’ve pressed ahead with a policy that will put even more Albertans out of work.
Thanks to Prime Minister Trudeau, Canada has already suffered the worst decline in living standards in forty years, with a drop in income per person that outpaces every other G7 country and an economic growth rate lagging behind all other OECD nations.
Now, the NDP-Liberal government plans to further harm our economy by targeting the very sector that provides nearly a million jobs and generates vital revenue for Alberta. The oil and gas sector is not only Canada’s largest private sector investor in clean technologies, but it also adheres to some of the highest environmental standards in the world.
Instead of celebrating this achievement, the Trudeau government is pushing ahead with a radical agenda that threatens to cripple Alberta’s energy industry. It is an ideological crusade that fails to recognize the crucial role of our energy sector in both the economy and the fight against climate change.
The NDP-Liberal government’s own analysis admits that this emissions cap will cost Albertans dearly, yet Trudeau continues to ignore the economic reality facing millions of workers.
Common Sense Conservatives will put an end to this economic vandalism, scrap the emissions cap, and work alongside Alberta’s energy workers to protect jobs and build a prosperous future for Alberta.
Alberta’s energy sector is a key pillar of our economy. As an Albertan I am proud of our oil and gas workers and will always stand up for them.
