Letter to the Editor: Time For Liberals to Handover Green Slush Fund Documents

Dear Editor,  

Constituents may be wondering why the work of Parliament has ground to a halt. Essentially, the Speaker of the House of Commons ruled that the NDP-Liberals have violated a House of Commons order to turn over evidence to the police for a criminal investigation. 

This past spring, the Auditor General found that Liberal appointees to the Liberal government’s Sustainable Development Technologies Canada fund (SDTC) gave $400 million tax dollars to their own companies, involving 186 conflicts of interest. We call this Green Slush Fund. 

Then the Conservatives put forward a motion in June to force the government, the SDTC, and the Auditor General to hand over all files related to the SDTC to the RCMP. The House of Commons adopted the motion but over the summer the government refused to table all the documents. As a result, Conservatives raised a point of privilege and the Speaker of the House of Commons ruled that the Liberal government had indeed breached an order of the House of Commons.  

Once again, the Liberals have shown disrespect to taxpayers and our Canadian values of transparency and accountability. Remember the SNC-Lavalin scandal when the Liberals tried to manipulate the justice system. Or the WE Charity scandal where the government tried to give away $1 billion, again with no accountability.  

Then there was the Winnipeg lab scandal when the Speaker of the House of Commons ruled that the Trudeau Liberals had to release documents related to suspicious activities. The Prime Minister sued the Speaker of the House of Commons and then called an election to prevent those documents from being released.  

Today this is about $400 million wasted or stolen tax dollars while Canadians can’t afford to eat, heat & house themselves. We think it is time for a carbon tax election so Canadians can see hope on the horizon, a return to normalcy and a government that understands that the privileges of governing. Only Common Sense Conservatives will end the corruption and get answers for Canadians.
